About me

Hello!

I used to go by Papayalina on Instagram. Now, I’m Flory.

I am a Russian artist living in Auckland, New Zealand who wants to share my art journey and the things I am learning along the way, both about art and life.

I wanted to be able to display my paintings in the way that I experience them- with music. Usually, I will hear a song while I am working on a piece and find that it perfectly matches the mood I am trying to capture. When you open a journal entry, you can press play on the song as you gaze at the illustration. I hope that the music helps you to feel the mood of the painting a lot more.

I also write about meditations and thoughts that interest me. My faith in Jesus plays a big part in this.

A lot of us live very fast-paced lives, so I want this to be a place where you can quiet your heart and mind, and let your soul be refreshed with some visual art, music and ideas.

Please enjoy.

Yours,
Flory

FAQ

  • A few things.

    1. I was primarily sharing art on Instagram for years and got tired of the tiny format. It doesn’t do art justice!

    2. On social media, we naturally scroll past anything we see in 2 seconds. I think we miss out on the value of being present and really soaking art in. We can get so much more out of it by meditating on art when it is in a larger format.

    3. I wanted to start sharing thoughts and ideas that I find interesting, especially about faith and what I have learned so far in life.

  • I love to draw things that are spiritual, soulful and psychological. Since I was a child, I enjoyed drawing dinosaurs, dragons and mythical creatures… so you might see some of those! I love nature and I love the renaissance painterly style, so those inspire me too.

  • Yes! Please check the commissions page to see if those are open and for more info.

  • I do not! Everything I create and write is made by my brain and hands.

Despite AI being such a commonplace thing nowadays, I am finding more and more that people connect and prefer connecting with art made by humans. I think we sense that it has soul in it.

  • Hands down 80’s synthwave.
